A new approach to managing workflow and collaboration issues with building information models (BIM) can be found in Graphisofts ArchiCAD 13 with Delta Server Technology. ArchiCAD really addresses productivity and collaboration in this release, with the advent of their BIM Server. Secondly, the release offers 64-bit support for Windows, which may now be a de facto standard among CAD software releases in support of memory-intensive BIM files.

"ArchiCAD v13 will be a game changer not just for ArchiCAD but for the BIM industry," says Akos Pfemeter, director of global marketing at Graphisoft. New technology in the latest version of the building information modeling (BIM) solution will allow multiple users to work on a building model simultaneously and virtually in real time as well as communicate with one another within the application itself, eliminating common BIM workflow bottlenecks.

Collaboration within building design teams and across multiple project delivery participants is the most critical success factor for BIM (building information modeling) and IPD (integrated project delivery). Teamwork 2.0, a technological breakthrough in collaboration from Graphisoft (and expected to ship later this year as part of ArchiCAD 13) offers such radical improvement in support for collaboration that any design firm or project team considering or attempting the BIM and/or IPD approaches must now seriously (re-)evaluate their choice of model-authoring tool for BIM/IPD.
